Interview with Next Stop Olympus

ROGUE PR (VIMH): Hi guys, congrats on your new album Heart, Mind & Hell. What is the significance of naming the album Heart, Mind & Hell?

NEXT STOP OLYMPUS: We came up with the title because it embodies the story behind the songs, each song and it’s order tells the story of someones downfall, so it starts with betrayal to anger then how they’ve turned to alcohol to cope and then the struggle to carry on, so the title is the struggle in their living hell in their heart and mind.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): What do the lyrics talk about? Which are your major lyrics’ influences?

NSO: The lyrics talk about stuff we’ve all gone through personally, different stuff we’ve either been through or go through so the major influences of the lyrics on this EP was our own lives and experiences.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): Which are those elements that separate your new album from your previous albums?

NSO: Our sound is a lot more mature on this release and I think we’ve really found our sound now. We really stepped up our song writing compared to our previous releases and also stepped up all of the recording and overall production.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): How would you characterize ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ and what are your expectations from the new album?

NSO: It’s a mix of Metalcore and post hardcore with a twist of rock ’n’ roll, with big chorus’ and catchy riffs to strong melodic moments. We just want to get the record out there as much as possible and try reach as many new ears as possible.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): How’s the fans’ reactions been to the new songs on your live shows so far?

NSO: Unfortunately due to the Covid situation we haven’t actually been able to play a show yet but the response to the EP so far has been great, and even managing too reach a lot further afield then we have previously.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): Do you prefer to be on the road or on the studio writing and recording?

NSO: We don’t really have a preference, we’re a big fan of live shows and when we’re writing and recording, either way we’re constantly getting new experiences and having a great time doing it!

ROGUE PR (VIMH): How did you come up with the name Next Stop Olympus initially?

NSO: We were trying to think of a name for quite a while but we wanted one that would stick out and it’s hard to try have a bit of a different name nowadays but one Saturday, Conor was watching Disney's Hercules and it’s a line from that film so when he dropped everyone a message we all liked it so it’s from that.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): How would you describe your music style to someone that hasn’t heard of you before?

NSO: The heavy aggressive part of the metalcore / post hardcore with the big chorus’ and catchy riffs of rock ’n’ roll.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): Which do you consider to be the best male & female vocalist in metal history?

NSO: That’s a big question!

Matt: For me the first two that come to mind would be Steven Tyler from Aerosmith if I can count him! And Amy Lee from Evanescence is the first that comes to mind for the Females.

Conor: Personally for me I’ll go for Joel Birch from The Amity Affliction for the males and Skye Sweetnam from Sumo Cyco because I’ve been listening to them a lot recently.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): Which is the record you wish you had written and why?

NSO:

Matt: I’d have to go with Reckless and relentless by Asking Alexandria because it’s probably my favourite album ever written.

Conor: I’d go with ‘A lesson in romantics’ by Mayday Parade because it’s just banger after banger.

ROGUE PR (VIMH): Were you obliged to give just one album to extraterrestrials that would represent the whole human music, which album would it be and from which band/artist?

NSO: We’d give them our new EP so we can get it out there even further!!

ROGUE PR (VIMH): If you had the chance to travel in time... where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?

NSO:

Conor: 1986 any Tuesday at the Cat house on sunset strip because it was the height of the hair metal craze and I’d love that.

Matt: Yeah I’d probably say the same, if we can get back there then we’d be doing it properly so we’d have to be together to make sure we can at least remember some of it!
