Interview with Broken-Lines

SPR (VIMH): Hi guys, congrats on your new album Liberation. Broken-Lines: Thank you so much, it was a long time in the making.

SPR (VIMH): What is the significance of naming an album after ...? Broken-Lines: The album - Liberation is a response to how we feel about where we, as a band, were at when we started putting the tracks together. It represents how we felt individually and collectively towards our art, our music, our creativity and each other.

SPR (VIMH): What do the lyrics talk about? Which are your major lyrics’ influences? Broken-Lines: Love, life, the world, feelings, experiences and we strongly want to express ourselves.

SPR (VIMH): Which are those elements that separate your new album from your previous albums? Broken-Lines: The main element that separates the new album from the last one is mostly that this is our debut album. :)

SPR (VIMH): How would you characterize “Liberation” and what are your expectations from the new album? Broken-Lines: It is a collection of ideas and experiences that we want to gather up, express and use as a foundation for the future. We want to use the album to get us out into the world, get our name known and as a vehicle to promote us. We are very proud of it and still get a kick out of listening to it! SPR (VIMH): How’s the fans’ reactions been to the new songs on your live shows so far? Broken-Lines: Fantastic. We usually get a good reaction, and so far, things have been wild on stage.

SPR (VIMH): Do you prefer to be on the road or on the studio writing and recording? Broken-Lines: You can’t really have one without the other so 50/50 I guess.

SPR (VIMH): How did you come up with the name Broken Lines initially? Broken-Lines: Hours and hours were spent coming with names and this is the one that stuck. It symbolizes that anything goes, anything is accepted and to have no limits.

SPR (VIMH): How would you describe your music style to someone that hasn’t heard of you before? Broken-Lines: A bit of everything really. Depends what we feel like.

SPR (VIMH): Which do you consider to be the best male & female vocalist in metal history? Broken-Lines: Cal from Discharge, they invented metal.

SPR (VIMH): Which is the record you wish you had written and why? Broken-Lines: Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty. It was still making him 80 grand a year when he died decades later.

SPR (VIMH): Were you obliged to give just one album to extraterrestrials that would represent the whole human music, which album would it be and from which band/artist? Broken-Lines: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, that would really fuck ‘em up!

SPR (VIMH): If you had the chance to travel in time… where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why? Broken-Lines: The past, there is no future.

Bio:

We are Broken Lines, a UK-based band with influences from psychedelic, punk, rock, electronic, folk and just about anything else that grabs us! We have just released our first album, Liberation, to great acclaim. We’re looking to give it as much air-play and exposure as possible.

We’re playing original, self-penned music from punk to spacey psychedelic with a twist and our live shows are an energetic experience of exciting, uplifting music and performance. We are trying to do something a little different that encompasses our passion and love of music. We love to experiment with sound and are always on the lookout for new sounds whilst earnestly trying to avoid categorization.

We believe that if you have a public platform it should be used to inform and educate. We have a core set of beliefs in common which drives the content of our songs without preaching. If one person gets our message, we are happy!

Broken Lines are David Wellan (guitar, vocals), Jack Jackson (drums, keyboards, vocals) and Mark Briscoe (bass, samplers, vocals). Now in our third year we are immensely excited and proud of our first album, recorded and produced by us, in our own studio. It is a stunning and passionate collection of songs that reflects who we are, what we feel and expresses our love of what we do.

Now in our third year we have released our debut album entitled “Liberation”, to critical acclaim. Recorded and produced by us, in our own studio. It is a stunning collection of songs that reflects us and our views up until the present day.

Who knows what we'll produce next!!!
