SPR (VIMH): Hi guys, congrats on your new album “Deathwish”.
Jaybee: Thanks
SPR (VIMH): What is the significance of the name?
Jaybee: I thought it sounded edgy and cool. I wanted it to be big spooky.
Kenny: True
SPR (VIMH): What do the lyrics talk about? Which are your major lyrics’ influences?
Jaybee: Mike wrote all the lyrics, but they’re just super sad. A lot of coping with deaths of loved ones and ending relationships and everything. It’s not all depressed though, it has kind of a happy ending.
SPR (VIMH): Which are those elements that separate your new album from your previous albums?
Jaybee: It was our first album so we were just kind of testing the waters and experimenting. I’m not sure where we’ll go in the future.
Kenny: That’s a lie. This dude (Jaybee) wrote almost all of our next album. Be on the lookout for that likely late this year early next year.
SPR (VIMH): How would you characterize “Deathwish” and what are your expectations from the new album?
Jaybee: It’s been out for a minute and we’ve played a lot of good shows and made a lot of really good memories with it. We’re stoked to move on the the next thing.
Kenny: Deathwish is the greatest Rock and Roll album from 2019. Give it a listen :D
SPR (VIMH): How’s the fans’ reactions been to the new songs on your live shows so far?
Jaybee: Vibes have been immaculate. The crowds groove, jive, and shimmy.
Kenny: Our shows always have a lot of energy and the crowd is always having a great time
SPR (VIMH): Do you prefer to be on the road or on the studio writing and recording?
Jaybee: Traveling on the road and playing music is my favorite part of life. If I could do that at all times I would. Being in the studio sucks and I hate it, unless someone else in my band is recording, then its chill.
Kenny: Playing shows is probably the overall more fun experience but I also enjoy recording and getting to listen to our new creations.
SPR (VIMH): How did you come up with the name, Dig Two Graves, initially?
Jaybee: An unnamed Russian Aristocrat who is actually from Lithuania gave me the idea for the name in a letter.
Kenny: It’s true
SPR (VIMH): How would you describe your music style to someone that hasn’t heard of you before?
Jaybee: Kind of a mixture of early 70’s R&B, and Meshuggah-era pop punk.
Kenny: Couldn’t have said it better myself.
SPR (VIMH): Which do you consider to be the best male & female vocalist in metal history?
Jaybee: The best male vocalist is up for debate but I’ll give it to Kyo from Dir En Grey. Female vocalist is beyond obvious because SPIRITBOX absolutely crushes and Courtney LaPlante is the best. Shoutout to Sarah Bonito in close second.
Kenny: My favorite Metal male vocalist is definitely Sean Harmanis from Make Them Suffer. Best female vocalist is Lady Gaga hands down. Sarah Bonito is an honorable mention though.
SPR (VIMH): Which is the record you wish you had written and why?
Jaybee: I wish I had written 1000 gecs by 100 gecs because it has all the sauce.
Kenny: But what if we wrote the remix album.
SPR (VIMH): Were you obliged to give just one album to extra-terrestrials that would represent the whole human music, which album would it be and from which band/artist?
Jaybee: I would give them the Full of Hell/The Body split. They would be too terrified to ever invade due to Chip King’s power alone.
Kenny: I would give them the new Emmure album. They would probably start a mosh pit and end up injuring each other; thus preventing any possible invasion.
SPR (VIMH): If you had the chance to travel in time… where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?
Jaybee: I would go back in time and watch X Japan’s Last Live from 2001 when Hide was still alive.
Kenny: I would go back to the 1200’s when life was simple.
