Interview with Wasting Time

SPR (VIMH): Hi guys, congrats on your new single, “My Limited French”

WT: Thanks!

SPR (VIMH): What is the significance of naming your song, “My Limited French”?

WT: It was written about our singer Vlad’s road trip with his girlfriend to Montreal and spewing out each and every one of the few French words/expressions that he knew to her.

SPR (VIMH): Which are your major lyrics’ influences?

WT: Life, love, good food, video games and Stephen King.

SPR (VIMH): Which are those elements that separate your new album from your previous albums?

WT: Just the added experience of playing and writing as a band over the 2 years since our first album, “Tales From The Morgue” has been invaluable to us. We recorded at Drive Studios with Steve Rizun for the first time for this album too, and we think it’s our best sounding material so far. We always try to one up ourselves because it would be soul-sucking to have to live in the shadow of our past work. Our new album will be out in the fall and will be called, “Once More Without Feeling”. It will include our latest single, “My Limited French”, which is a good taster of what the album as a whole will sound like.

SPR (VIMH):How would you characterize “My Limited French” and what are your expectations from the new album?

WT: It’s an upbeat, punk love song with a lot of energy and heart poured into it. We expect to have more people hear “Once More Without Feeling” than our previous one. We also want to tour to places we haven’t been to yet to promote it once we’re allowed to play shows again.

SPR (VIMH): How’s the fans’ reactions been to the new songs on your live shows so far?

WT: The few that we’d managed to perform before lockdown were pretty well received and were fun to play. Hopefully the applause we received implied that the crowd were able to notice!

SPR (VIMH): Do you prefer to be on the road or on the studio writing and recording?

WT: Playing live and feeding off the energy of the crowd with the rest of the band cranked to 11 on stage cannot be topped.

SPR (VIMH): How did you come up with the name "Wasting Time" initially?

WT: Our singer Vlad was disruptive in elementary school. His family studies teacher once said to him that if he didn’t stop wasting everyone else’s time in class with his disruptions, he’d have a future working at McDonald’s. Those kind words clearly were unforgettable and Vlad applied them to the band.

SPR (VIMH):How would you describe your music style to someone that hasn’t heard of you before?

WT: Melodic punk rock.

SPR (VIMH): Which do you consider to be the best male & female vocalist in metal history?

WT: Lemmy and Jennifer Finch.

SPR (VIMH):Which is the record you wish you had written and why?

WT: Dookie by Green Day because it is aggressive, catchy and everyone can sing along to at least one song from it.

SPR (VIMH): Were you obliged to give just one album to extraterrestrials that would represent the whole human music, which album would it be and from which band/artist?

WT: The White Album by The Beatles since it covers a wide scope of different sounds/genres. It would particularly be fun to scare extraterrestrials off by playing them “Helter Skelter” or even “Revolution 9”.

SPR (VIMH): If you had the chance to travel in time… where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?

WT: Currently the future looks pretty bleak, so I’d want to go as far back as possible. I’d probably like to go back to the early 60s when my beloved Toronto Maple Leafs won 3 Stanley Cup Championships in a row.
