LIFECYCLE is a hard-hitting Alternative Metal band based out of Jackson, NJ. LIFECYCLE features Asim Rizvi (4Karma), John Soden (Legion), Joe Viggiano (formerly Ataraxia), Kevin Hightower (formerly Noosphere), and Scott Pustilnick (formerly MCA recording Artist Familiar 48).
The group met while recording at Audio Alley in Pitman, NJ where Kevin, Scott, and John introduced their experience recording with Grammy-nominated producer Don Gehman (John Mellencamp, REM, Blues Traveler), Mark Dearnley (Ozzy, AC/DC), Morgan Rose (Sevendust) and John "J.D." Deservio (Black Label Society). LIFECYCLE takes the addictive guitar riffs and melodic vocals to produce completely original alternative metal. No Ego as LIFECYCLE writes what is best for the songs.
SPR (VIMH): Hi guys, congrats on your debut single "Lifecycle"!
LC: Thank you! The band is really excited to be dropping new music every other month. Our plan is to constantly keep it fresh so our fans don't have to wait months or years for new music.
SPR (VIMH): What is the significance of naming a single the same as the band name?
LC: Which came first...the chicken or the egg? Our song "Lifecycle" was actually written before we named the band. Naming a band is completely whacked. We decided to name the band LifeCycle after months of ideas for names. It was the most annoying thing the band has been through.
SPR (VIMH): What do the lyrics talk about? Which are your major lyrics’ influences?
LC: As for what LifeCycle songs are about......Music in general can mean different things to different people. One person's interpretation of lyrics/ song can be completely different from another person's. That is part of the beauty of music. So Asim will not typically like giving a song a definitive meaning because the way he sees it and writes it, may be interpreted another way by someone else. Doesn't mean anyone is wrong, it's just their perspective. However, as a songwriter Asim typically likes to focus on aspects of life itself. Love, lust, greed, vulnerability, purpose, life and death are all common themes in our music, all served with a side of metal.
SPR (VIMH): Which are those elements that separate your new single from your previous single?
LC: "Burnout" drops everywhere March 2020. The song is completely different from our debut single "Lifecycle". The way the song is built, the energy and the mood is just completely different. The song is built on a guitar and strings intro. We tried to let the song build itself and not force a "commercial" structure to it.
SPR (VIMH): How would you characterize “Burnout" and what are your expectations from the new single?
LC: Have you ever just floored your gas pedal? That chill you get, the sense of excitement and risk all at the same time....That's what our latest single, "Burnout" is all about. Life is tough and can weigh you down, so sometimes you just need to block everything out and go for a long drive to clear your head. "Burnout" drops March 2020.
SPR (VIMH): How did the cooperation with MyerStudio occur? How’s working with Jay Esbensen and how much has he helped you on the whole?
LC: Some things just fall into place and are so easy and other things are such a pain in the ass you just want to quit. Thank tiny baby jesus that this was easy. Working with an engineer like Jay has been quite the experience. Unlike other engineers, Jay is not trying to produce bands. He is there to make us sound good and help us along the way when things get stressful. As you may know, studio time can get full of pressure. You want to perform correctly and play your best. Some days , some hours, some minutes are extremely difficult. Jay doesn't panic and his energy is perfect. If you live in the northeast and you want quality, MyerStudio and Jay is your logical conclusion.
SPR (VIMH): How’s the fans’ reactions been to the new songs on your live shows so far?
LC: We tend to get hit with trash, bottles, food scraps...basically anything that people can throw, they will try and hit us with it. Seriously though, our fans, and really any music fan has a blast watching us live. We don't sample anything, we don't play to a click. Everything you hear is real and full of energy. We are a band that values playing our instruments live and playing them correctly. LifeCycle will give you your moneys worth. If you like hard rock, or metal , or alt-metal or any other category you want to make up, then come see us and say hello. Hello!
SPR (VIMH): Do you prefer to be on the road or on the studio writing and recording?
LC: e usually end up face down on the road after a ton of Rum or if we start drinking Jack Daniels Rye. That seems to be our place of rest......the Road. We do prefer to travel and play live. Entertaining people with our live shows and music is a must for LifeCycle. The studio is great and we love it. We all work so well together but there is nothing like traveling on the road to entertain and meet new people. LifeCycle loves to talk music so please reach out to us and lets talk!
SPR (VIMH): How did you come up with the name LifeCycle initially?
Justin: We actually had the song title "LifeCycle" picked out before we named the band, "LifeCycle". A Black Sabbath - "Black Sabbath" kind of deal. As we wrote more music, we realized a lot of what we were writing focused around aspects of life itself. When we realized the motto of that song was on point with what we generally write about, a light bulb went off.
SPR (VIMH): How would you describe your music style to someone that hasn't heard of you before?
LC: A cross between Wang Chung and Kajagoogoo. That joke is only funny if you know those 80's bands. Actually our music is guitar driven hard rock or metal with melodic vocals. We try and let the songs dictate what is needed. Many bands in this genre all sound a lot alike. We try to avoid that. Asim does not scream the verses and sing the chorus like so many wonderful bands out there. There is more to music than sounding like everyone else. The main focus of this band is guitar and melody.
SPR (VIMH): Which do you consider to be the best male & female vocalist in metal history?
LC: Freddy Mercury of Queen for both! ok...that's a joke so no one get mad please! Freddy Mercury for sure on the male side and for the female side its tough to beat Aretha Franklin.
SPR (VIMH): Were you obliged to give just one album to extraterrestrials that would represent the whole human music, which album would it be and from which band/artist?
LC: AC/DC Back in Black. Try and find a more complete top to bottom album, start to finish. It's tough. There are other albums out there that are just as good and Back in Black isn't even my favorite album ever or even my favorite AC/DC album....Back in Black is a masterpiece of song writing and album creation. Its as close to perfect as any rock band has produced.
SPR (VIMH): If you had the chance to travel in time… where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?
LC: Killer question! The future. In the past, the average unknown band had no way to write music, record it, produce it and share it with the world like we can right now. Today we can do all that without selling our soul to MCA records. (I know MCA records is dead, good riddance!). Since bands can do all that today and we couldn't do that in the past, the future is going to be even better for musicians. The ease of music creation and sharing is constantly evolving for the better....living in the past is great when listening to old music and the way it makes you feel but...... the future? The future has endless possibilities and all positive!
