Hailing from Edinburgh Scotland, Ifreann have carved out a generous following in their homeland of Scotland since playing their first live show in 2017. They placed 2nd in Scotland's Metal to the Masses where they placed 2nd out of 32 bands.
Their new EP, Desecration, came out earlier this year. I can say that straight out of the gate it blasts you against the wall with it's barrage and assault of heavy riffage. With driving thrash drum beats, and awesome solos that set the fretboard ablaze. The EP kicks off in high gear.
While all the tracks stand out and on their own, “Raised In Hate” was a really fun track to listen to. With triplet chugging it really gets your headbangin' and hair swingin' with the beat. Heading into the bridge it flows into a very pronounced 6/8 time signature that keeps it moving along. Finishing up with harmonized guitar solos, and a bass solo and drum beat before the final verse comes in.
The album finished strong with “Crushed By Tyranny” with it's furious double bass, gang vocals, and great fretboard work.
Overall, this is a pretty strong EP and I look forward to a full album hopefully in the future. With good pacing, production, fiery solos and raw vocal stylings, this is a fun listen.
I'll rate it a 8/10 on the Furious Metal-O-Meter.
Stay Furious,
Bill 'Furious' Groen
