Forming in Turin, Italy in 2014, The Blacklava have created their hard rock/bluesy kind of sound. Rocking harder than similar bands in the genre, such as The Hives, The Vines, and Jet. Their music will pull you in with their infectious energy.
Singer Karlo has a vocal style that really meshes well with the music. He has that gravely sort of voice that is very characteristic, and he nails it.
The opening track of the album, “Come Over Me”, set a good tone for what you, the listener, will experience aurally up ahead. “I'm In Love” continues with the pacing and, and actually drives the tempo, and energy up to near peak levels.
“Make Me Feel Alright” rocks...hard. Tons of fun to listen to, and would be great to hear them play live. This is a definite stand out track.
The longer the album goes on, they energy grows and just doesn't let up.
While you are looking at the track listing. The song “Zombie” is not a Cranberries cover in the slightest. It's a straight up rock and roll song that hooks you in with nicely over-driven guitars. This was a stand out track for me on the album for sure.
As the album winds down, “Bones” will help lead you into the end as it slows the pace moving into the final song, “Break the Rules”.
“Break the Rules” picks the pace back up a bit, just enough to put some pep in your step as the album comes to a close.
It's a relatively short album, clocking at around 32 minutes. Don't let that deter you though, it's a fun, quick, high energy listen. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who queues up some music for running, or working out. Or for listening in the car on the way to a job that just sucks the energy away. This should give you some energy to hopefully make it through the day.
Score on the Furious meter. 6.5/10. Good production, fun listen. Similar to a lot of other bands out there like them, but they do carve a unique spot out for themselves.
Stay Furious,
Bill 'Furious' Groen
