ROGUE PR (VIMH): Hi guys, congrats on your new album Every Second Counts EP.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): What is the significance of naming an album after that name?
STONEBROTHER: We named the release “Every Second Counts” as sort of a double entendre; it’s both a play on words and a subtle nod to it being our second release, but it’s also a reference to how we didn’t have a lot of time to make it; with the whole demo coming together in only two days.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): What do the lyrics talk about? Which are your major lyrics’ influences?
STONEBROTHER: (Leo) The lyrics mainly talk about personal/band experiences that we’ve had. For example problem child is about one of Zach’s teachers who didn’t quite like him. Our largest influence for lyrics are probably Zeppelin, Floyd, Gn’R, the Beatles, and Van Halen.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): Which are those elements that separate your new album from your previous albums?
STONEBROTHER: (Zach) The big difference is that we didn’t do this one in my basement. We actually went to a studio and worked with someone else, and the difference is quite noticeable. There’s also a lot more parts to this demo, such as a Hammond organ, because we had a lot more resources available.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): How would you characterize “Every Second Counts” and what are your expectations from the new album?
STONEBROTHER: (Ethan) I would say the demo is a mix of pretty much every subgenre of “rock” under the sun; from alternative to metal, but in a way that to my knowledge hasn’t been done quite like this before. In terms of “expectations” I'd say you can expect to hear something brand new, while at the same time including all the things that got people into rock in the first place.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): How did the cooperation with your record label occur? How’s working with them and how much has he/she helped you on the whole?
STONEBROTHER: (Leo) We’re self released man! The studio we recorded it at was New Scotland Yard, and they were quite a help with it though.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): How’s the fans’ reactions been to the new songs on your live shows so far?
STONEBROTHER: (Zach) Our only shows since releasing the EP were online due to the pandemic so we have yet to get an actual response, but pre-COVID our response was generally pretty good, we try to have some stuff that people can sing along to and get more invested in.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): Do you prefer to be on the road or in the studio writing and recording?
STONEBROTHER: (Ethan) I think all three of us would say being on the road. Writing and recording are great fun, but there’s something about that live show experience, that feeling in the room, it’s unlike anything else in this world. Playing a show for people is the most fun thing I can think of doing, and we’re very excited to start hitting the road again once we can go out.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): How did you come up with the name Stonebrother initially?
STONEBROTHER: (Leo) We spent a while (6+ months) looking for a band name, we came across Stonebrother and it just fit. Two brothers in a band and some other guy.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): How would you describe your music style to someone that hasn’t heard of you before?
STONEBROTHER: (Zach) I would say we’re a high energy hard rock band, with elements of such acts as GnR, Van Halen, The Tragically Hip, Rush, Metallica, etc.
ROGUE PR (VIMH):Which do you consider to be the best male & female vocalist in metal history?
STONEBROTHER: (Ethan) That’s a really hard question to answer. If I’m being totally honest, I’ve gotta give “best male singer” to Freddie Mercury. The rich tone of his voice, his vocal range, and the way that even when performing for millions of people he hit every note with pure confidence. He’s just a legend, and the epitome of an amazing vocalist. Female singer, however, I’d say is probably either Whitney Houston or Aretha Franklin, but for the same reason; their voices, be it for range, style, or just pure emotion, can give you chills to listen to. They were two of the most powerful, and immensely talented people to ever live, and two of the greatest voices to ever bless our ears.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): Which is the record you wish you had written and why?
STONEBROTHER: (Leo) For overall musicality I wish I’d written Counterparts by Rush. I know a lot of Rush fans don’t like the direction they went with it, but I find the more “grungy” feel really refreshing and awesome. The production, songwriting, and parts are all fantastic. Love that album.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): Were you obliged to give just one album to extraterrestrials that would represent the whole human music, which album would it be and from which band/artist?
STONEBROTHER: (Zach) One album to represent all of humanity would be a pretty tall order, and that would change drastically based on who you asked. For me, I think I’d go with Zeppelin 4. It kind of has something for everyone, and it’s a pretty awesome work of art.
ROGUE PR (VIMH): If you had the chance to travel in time… where would you choose to go? To the past or the future and why?
STONEBROTHER: (Ethan) As much fun as it would be to travel to the past and experience history first hand, I’ve spent way too much time in my life wondering what the next big thing is going to be, socially and technologically, to not say the future, plus it would be nice to know if we ever found a way to mend some of the more serious issues that we as humans face and are working to solve now.
